Ultracet (combination of Acetaminophen and Tramadol) is used to relieve moderate to severe forms of pain. When both the painkillers are used together the combination offers better relief from pain as compared to either medication used alone.

Active working of Ultracet:

As it is a combination painkiller, Ultracet works by two mechanisms of action:Acetaminophen belongs to the class of medications called COX inhibitors. Cyclooxygenase is an enzyme needed for the synthesis of prostaglandin and thromboxane. These are the mediators in the pain cycle and when these get blocked your pain sensation will get blocked.

Tramadol falls under the group of medications called opioid analgesics. The medication is known to act on the central nervous system (CNS) in order to provide you relief from Contraindications:

It is recommended not to take Ultracet tablet in following conditions:

  • a metabolic disorder;
  • a history of epilepsy or other seizure disorder;
  • a history of head injury;
  • a history of drug or alcohol addiction;

Drug Interactions:

Some medications are known to interact with this combination painkiller and increase or decrease the effects of it, these include:

  • Sedatives such as Diazepam, Lorazepam or Alprazolam
  • MAO inhibitor (Phenelzine, Selegiline)
  • Azole antifungals such as Ketoconazole
  • Antibiotics like Erythromycin, Rifampin

Storage conditions:

  • Store Ultracet tablet at room temperature away from harsh conditions like light, moisture and heat.

How to use Ultracet:

Take one tablet of Ultracet 100mg via oral route, generally every 4 to 6 hours as per your intensity of pain. There is no necessity of food intake along with Ultracet tablet; you can take it with or without food. If you are suffering from nausea, then you must take this painkiller with food. The dosage and duration of Ultracet tablet depends on your medical condition and response to treatment.

Side effects:

Nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, constipation, or sweating may crop up on taking Ultracet tablet. Some of these ill effects may get minimized after you have been utilizing this painkiller for a while. In order to prevent constipation, you must increase the intake of fibers in your diet, drink ample water and carry out regular exercise.

Precautions:

  • This combination pill may be habit forming, thus avoid sharing it with another individual.
